Newest MFA with Microsoft Authenticator

GR,

If you are using the latest MFA with Microsoft Authenticator, it will prompt you for a number.  Your computer will show you a number and you will have to enter that number on your phone.

It shouldn’t just be Approve or Deny.  MS changed that because people get busy and were just hitting Approve.  That MFA request could be coming from anywhere, so they went to a number system.

If your Microsoft Authenticator does not prompt you for a number, please let me know and I will reset your MFA.

If you are getting MFA requests seemingly out of nowhere, somebody is attempting to access your account.  That usually means they have your username and password but can’t get past MFA.

I have multiple, personal Microsoft accounts and they try to get in multiple times a day.  I can see my sign-in activity logs and they occasionally try MFA to see if I am foolish enough to approve it.

You can always check your sign-in activity and connected devices.  Here is the link My Account

They come from all over the world and many hide behind VPN services.  Usually, they have an old password from a previous security breach from some company (happens all the time).  Those lists of passwords are sold and distributed on the Dark Web and threat actors try to exploit them.

Be cautious,

Rudy
