Juneteenth
Good afternoon, everyone!
Monday is the nationally recognized holiday, Juneteenth. If you want to know more about the origins of the Juneteenth, check out this article from The New York Times that was just updated by them this past week: “Juneteenth: The History of a New Holiday.”
There are many things you can do around town to celebrate it.
Here’s a great list of events, parties, exhibits and more from SeattleMet: “How to Celebrate Juneteenth in Seattle” and here’s another list of Seattle events from The Seattle Times.
You can also go out to support and celebrate with the many Black and African American-owned restaurants in Seattle. Here’s a list of just a few restaurants to support across Seattle (and these are some good ones):
- June Baby – Ravenna
- Communion – Central District
- Café Campagne – Pike Place Market
- The Comfort Zone – Columbia City
- Jones Barbeque – Fauntleroy
And there’s a more comprehensive list, also from SeattleMet, that was just updated back in March – “A Guide to Seattle’s Black-Owned Restaurants”
It doesn’t look like great weather through the weekend, so what better way to celebrate Juneteenth indoors with one of the above-listed activities.
We’ll be looking forward to seeing any reports in the GR General channel or in Teams on Monday. ????
Happy Friday!
