End Donation Discrimination – World Blood Donor Day

Today is World Blood Donor Day! This is a day where companies raise awareness about donating blood which is desperately needed. America is facing the largest blood shortage in history, however there is one large group that is being prohibited from participating in this life saving activity. The FDA currently restricts men who have sex with men (MSM), and women who are with men who’ve ever had sex with another man from donating. It’s absurd.

This policy doesn’t consider lifestyle, risk factor, or science—it just focuses on sexual orientation. It’s discriminatory, all blood gets tested for a variety of diseases, and it prevents an estimated 615,000 pints of blood from being donated every year.

GR is looking to bring awareness to this issue. We’ve been working on a campaign that educates people and encourages them to sign petitions aimed at the FDA to change their policy. You can see more information by going to the site we created EndDonationDiscrimination.com and be on the lookout for the social work we’re releasing today. And if you can ‘Like’ or share that social work, that would help us out. Thanks!
